What we think, good or bad draws near. Our thoughts lead to corresponding effects. Negative thoughts bring destruction, and good thoughts lead to positive outcomes. Our thoughts have the power to shape our lives.

Negative thinking significantly increases negative results by impairing our mental and physical health. They destroy relationships, cause poor decision making, and create a never ending cycle of stress and anxiety, ultimately impairing our health and well-being, leading to dangerous results.

So how do we transform our thoughts with all the negativity that has enveloped our minds for so long?

If you tend to be a negative person, don't despair - you can learn positive thinking techniques that help shift your mindset. Read on to learn how.

Focus on the Positive

Positive thinking doesn't mean that you ignore life's difficult times. It just means that you approach unpleasant situations in a more positive and productive way. You think the best is going to happen, not the worst.

One negative thought can magnify and throw everything out of proportion, turning a minor issue into an all-consuming catastrophe, fueling fear, anxiety, and panic.

But it can be corrected by challenging that thought and focusing on the positive. Our minds can be reprogrammed through repetition.

Repeating words or affirmations over and over again conditions the mind toward the positive and rewires the brain. This creates new neural pathways where positive thoughts deeply embed into your mind.

Self Talk

Positive self-talk helps you feel better about yourself. Here are some tips to help you with self-talk:

Practice thinking good things about yourself. Practice seeing a glass being half full, rather than half empty. Remind yourself what you’re good at, and reflect on your strengths.

Tell yourself, "I am capable," or "I can do this", or "This is tough, but I can learn" or "I have the power to change my mind". "I may be nervous, but I'm forging ahead regardless.

Be open to humor. Laughter can help relieve stress and tension. When you need a boost for positive self-talk, find ways to laugh at the situation.

When you get up in the morning say "Today is a new day and it's going to be a wonderful day. Something goods going to happen to me today."

Renew With Positive Affirmations

Usher in a new life with these inspiring affirmations. Whatever your next chapter brings, greet it with these words of life, hope, and happiness.

To begin, focus on the affirmations below, say them outloud, and repeat them 10 times each.

  1. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Philippians 4: 13. This is the greatest affirmation of all time. It combats negative thoughts by shifting our focus on our own personal limits, to a High empowering presence that encourages hope, help, and contentment.

  2. "Everything is beautiful around me and I choose to bask in the beauty today with love, peace and happiness..

  3. "I am resilient, and I can navigate any challenge that comes my way today."

  4. "Everything is changing around me and my life is truly blessed." Focus on the abundance and joy already present, no matter how small.

  5. "I am entering into a new chapter in my life, one with good health, good thoughts, new plans, and wonderful possibilities.

  6. I am healed, I am happy and I am whole, I will never allow a negative thought to steal my joy and happiness again.

Cast Those Negative Thoughts Down

Use God's Word (like the Spirit) as divine weapons to destroy negative strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Negative thoughts will take you over if you don't cast them down and give them to God.That is what I do when tragedies overtake my life. Horrible thoughts get a grip on your mind and won't let go, and they bombard you day and night.

But if you cast those imaginations down and give them to God, He will take them off your shoulders and set you free from the strife and agony.

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5.

When a negative thought enters your mind, say these words aloud, "Oh no you don't. I cast that thought down (whatever it is) and give it to you to God. That thought doesn't belong to me, get out of my mind this moment." Now sit back and feel the peace that overcomes you.

Meditate On These Things

Whatever is true: Deceits and lies can rile us up and then we dwell on them till they eat us up. Nobody likes to be fed lies, it's a sign of disrespect and implies that we are gullible and stupid.

The moment your mind captures those lies, don't embrace them. Instead think about things that are true; the truth that you're loved by many, that you were created wonderfully, that you are special, and that you have a purpose that you're going to fulfill.

Whatever is honorable: Consciously direct your thoughts away from negativity by choosing to meditate on high standards, virtuous examples, and actions that build character, respect, and peace, rather than dwelling on the worst of things.

You may know some people who you consider honorable. Talk to them, learn from them, think about them.

Whatever is right: Redirect negative thoughts by practicing gratitude. Take time to acknowledge the good things in your life and focus on them. Right living involves right thinking. Wrong thinking leads to wrong emotions which quickly pull our hearts and minds into the deep pit of distress, fear and worry.

Whatever is pure: Keep your mind focused on clean and pure thoughts. Replace negative or impure thoughts with positive things like prayer, nature, or a goal you want to pursue.

Whatever is lovely: There are so many things that are lovely in our world, and all of it surrounds us. Focus your mind on natures beauty, the animals in the wild, the birds in the air singing their sweet harmony.

Think on things that make you smile, bring joy, and ushers you in a sense of peace.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

Keep company with those who are optimistic and supportive. Being around negative people can affect your mindset, leading you to either become more negative and anxious or to become indifferent, uncaring, or even mean towards the negative person.

Count Your Blessings

Count your blessings one by one and be grateful for them all - big and small. This shifts your focus from your burdens and woes to appreciating what you have -your loved ones, pets, family, friends, joys, simple comforts, and encourages happiness, peace, improved well-being, and a deeper appreciation for everything.

Cultivating gratitude is a daily habit that involves intentionally noticing and valuing the good things in your everyday experiences and relationships.

Being grateful keeps our mind on the positive and makes our lives richer and fuller.

Take Watch Over Your Heart

Bitterness, fear, and offense are subtle intruders. They rarely announce themselves loudly; they seep in quietly through disappointment, unmet expectations, and wounded relationships. Left unchecked, they harden the heart, distort perception, and drain vitality.

Close every door to bitterness, fear, and offense, and open wide the gates to truth and peace. Refuse to let yesterday’s wounds contaminate today’s joys. Let forgiveness cleanse, let discernment reign, and let peace become a boundry.

Actively watch and protect your heart, thoughts, motives and desires from harmful influences, because your whole life, actions, and character flow from this core, like water from a spring.

Conclusion:

Transforming negative thoughts into positive thoughts isn't an overnight event. It takes consistency and time. But with practice, self-talk, and determination, eventually you may become less critical of the world around you.

When your state of mind is optimistic, you'll be able to handle everyday stress in a more constructive way. That ability may contribute to the widely observed health benefits of positive thinking.
