Optimism and gratitude go hand in hand. An optimistic mindset trains the brain to focus on our blessings while promoting hope for the future.

Gratitude allows us to shift our focus from what we lack to appreciating our current circumstances, which fuels an optimistic outlook on what is to come. This combo reduces stress, boosts resilience, and promotes overall well-being.

Research shows that people who practice gratitude experience less depression, lower stress, better sleep, and greater, more optimistic, and appreciative outlooks on life.

Optimism and Gratitude are the two best medicines for your mind, body, and soul.

Healing Powers Of Optimism

Being optimistic greatly improves your brain and body health. Studies have shown optimistic thinking lowers stress hormones (like cortisol), strengthens your immune system, and reduces inflammation.

Optimism promotes changes in our nervous systems, creating new neural pathways, which improves our immune system, diminishes inflammation, improves sleep, increases positive social interaction, increases longevity, and floods our brain with the feel good hormones dopamine and serotonin.

Now that's something to be grateful for: It doesn’t take very much time or energy to access this feel-good mechanism. It’s free and available all the time!

Optimistic thinking also promotes better cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart disease by 35%, accelerates recovery from injuries, and lowers chronic pain levels by 20-30%, while promoting mental resoluteness and longevity.

Optimistic people engage in healthier lifestyles, leading to better overall physical and mental well-being.

Healing Powers Of Gratitude

An attitude of gratitude is the antidote for envy, fear, anger, frustration, bitterness, resentment, anxiety, and stress. Gratitude is a critical aid for rising above the troubles and worries that strive to pull us down.

Practicing gratitude is a miraculous way of changing our negative, harmful thoughts and attitude to an optimistic outlook for the future.

Many people struggle with emotional and physical health issues and find it very difficult to feel grateful. If this is the case for you, I have really good news: all you have to do is ask yourself, “What am I grateful for?” This will get your body's internal, self-generated healing system stimulated!

Things To Be Grateful For

There are so many blessings on God's great earth that we should be grateful for that bypass so many: A beautiful sunrise peeking above the horizon. The golden beams of sunshine that brightens up your day. The fresh air that we breathe.

The contentment that a soft- falling rain shower brings. A bird singing their sweet melodies. The vast infinite blue sky with wisps of clouds hovering above. A fragrant flower blooming on a hydrangea bush, love, times of joy. There are so many things we can be grateful for.

Start The Process

Get your journal out and jot down 5 things each night you were grateful for today, then read it in the morning.

When you’re stopped at a traffic light, waiting in line at the grocery store, waiting for your turn at the beauty parlor or at a doctors office, anywhere you have to wait - count your blessings. See how many things you can come up with before it’s your turn.

When you are about to pick up your phone to check your social media, take a moment to pause. First, ask yourself, “What am I grateful for?”; think of one thing, then go ahead and check your social media account - (if you still want to).

At night, when you hit the sack, think back over the day and bring to mind any positive interactions you had - perhaps a stranger who smiled at you or the sweet, friendly clerk at a convenience store. Embrace the feeling of their appreciation.

Notice people around you and pay attention to what you appreciate about them. Then, when you see them, tell them how much you appreciate them. Watch what happens in your life after practicing this for a short while.

Conclusion:

Pondered on what you are grateful for: the roof over my head, your eyesight, another day with your child or spouse, a good joke, and food on your table. Perhaps some of these resonate with you, or you may have completely different things come to mind.

At the end of the day, what matters most is how you feel when you think of what you are grateful for. May this help support your journey to optimal health and wellness.
