While there are many foods that seem to fit the name "Superfood", we compiled a list of foods that legitimately deserve the right to claim the name because of the health benefits they contain.
Superfoods are foods that offer maximum nutritional value. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. But many who claim foods to be superfoods are without scientific evidence and without exceptional nutrient content.
What Really Are Superfoods?
Superfoods are foods such as Dark leafy greens, salmon, broccoli, berries, garlic. They are rich in antioxidants, fiber, or omega fatty acids; foods that are beneficial to human health and wellness; foods that help prevent sickness and disease.
The term can be deceiving and harmful, because no one food can do it all. But it goes without saying that some food are healthier than others. Some healthy food do stand out. Some foods are super-charged, super-healthy foods, and can do wonderful things for your health, skin, and body.
What Do Superfoods Do?
The name "Superfoods" are actually natural foods that are especially nutrient dense. They help increase your immune system and minimize your chance of disease or development thereof.
Every superfood has different nutritional values but they are all associated with heart health, a strong immune system, cancer prevention, reduced inflammation, and low cholesterol.
What is Considered A Superfood?
Superfoods are exactly what the name says: they are super-healthy foods. However, not every healthy food is a superfood.
Superfoods are rich in antioxidants that protect cell damage and lower your risk of heart disease, cancer, sickness, and other diseases. Now, this is my kind of superfood. Yummm! What a Great addition to the Superfood family. If you have every dreamed of eating chocolate every day, now you have a ton of excuses.
Dark chocolate is absolutely considered a superfood. Scientific studies have shown that dark chocolate contains flavanols and polyphenols which acts as antioxidants, which have been linked to heart health and cancer prevention. Dark chocolate also contains copper, manganese, fiber, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc, to name a few.
Dark Chocolate is derived from the cacao plant and cacao is packed with numerous antioxidants. Cacao contains a substance called theobromine that may reduce inflammation and lower blood sugar levels.
